CREATIVE BOOKMAKING: Workshops with Jeannie Hunt in schools, libraries and community arts.

Calling Cards

What's in a name?

In certain cultures, young people choose new names for themselves at important turning points in their lives.

In this workshop, we start with a discussion about our own names and nicknames.  Then we'll play a word game to develop a personal word pool. This becomes the inspiration for poetic new names, as we explore our multiple identities and name the inner qualities that offer us strength as we move through the world.

We'll build a book with 3 pockets, to hold our new "calling cards". Each card becomes a unique unit of design, with text on one side, and a visual image on the reverse. We'll design personal power symbols using scratch-magic paper.  A favorite with teens.
